This wasn’t just a lick of paint — it was about creating a place people genuinely want to spend time in, with new food, new entertainment and plenty of atmosphere.
One of the biggest changes is in the kitchen. The menu has been expanded to include wood-fired artisan pizzas, cooked in a viewable pizza oven that now brings a bit of theatre to the pub. Customers will also find a new range of comforting pots, think mac and cheese or classic meatballs, alongside our hero trays, available in both meat and vegetarian options, designed for sharing or enjoying solo if you’re feeling hungry.
The team has also introduced interactive games, including darts and shuffleboard, to make The Playwright a spot where people come not just to drink or eat, but to play, laugh and spend time together. Whether catching up with friends, planning a family outing or just fancy something different on a weeknight, there’s plenty to get involved in.
General Manager Thomas Palko summed it up well: “The refurbishment is about more than a refreshed look, it’s about building a space where the community can relax, connect and have fun.”
It’s no secret that hospitality continues to face challenges, but Wells & Co remains committed to investing in its pubs and the people who use them. The Playwright’s transformation is part of that commitment, creating meaningful experiences for local communities and giving guests more reasons to step through the door.
The pub is now open and ready to welcome everyone back. Whether you’re visiting for the food, the games or simply the atmosphere, we think you’ll love what’s new.
