As part of our International Women’s Day 2026 celebrations, we’re continuing our Give to Gain profile series by shining a light on some of the remarkable women who shape Wells & Co. from across our teams. Today, we’re proud to share the story of Hannah Seraj, long‑standing Pub Partner and owner of The Cross Keys and The Plough in Milton Keynes, whose leadership, passion, and entrepreneurial spirit embody what it means to invest in people and community.
A decade of partnership and progress
Hannah has been one of our Partners for an impressive 10 years. A decade filled with growth, resilience, and, as she puts it, “a lot of great pints.” Her partnership with us has been built on trust, shared ambition, and a deep commitment to delivering exceptional hospitality.
The many hats of a pub owner
Running The Cross Keys means no two days are ever the same. Hannah’s role spans every facet of the business. HR lead, payroll manager, PR representative, mentor, first aider and, importantly, occasional beer taster for quality control.
It’s a hands‑on, heart‑driven role that demands adaptability, sharp business sense, and a genuine passion for people. Under her stewardship, The Cross Keys has become a warm, welcoming focal point for its community.
Why hospitality still inspires her
For Hannah, hospitality is all about moments, both the everyday ones and the milestone ones.
“Creating memorable experiences,” she says, is what she loves most. From breakfast catch‑ups to birthday toasts, from casual dinners to big celebrations, Hannah feels privileged to be entrusted with moments that matter.
A career built from the ground up
Hannah’s hospitality journey started in her teenage years, cleaning hotel rooms and serving breakfasts. She moved into shift supervision in managed houses before taking the bold step of running her own pub at just 25 years old!
That early leap set the foundation for a thriving career and she’s never looked back.
Looking ahead: growth for herself and her team
Ambition continues to drive Hannah forward. Over the next few years, she plans to expand her pub portfolio and reinvest in her sites, ensuring they remain vibrant, thriving venues within their communities.
Just as importantly, she is committed to developing her team. Creating clear management pathways and long-term career opportunities is a core focus. Reflecting her belief that great pubs are built on empowered, confident people.
What Give to Gain means to Hannah
For Hannah, the 2026 International Women’s Day theme, Give to Gain, speaks directly to the heart of hospitality and leadership.
“To me, it’s about investment,” she explains. “When you give time, knowledge, and support to your team, you gain loyalty, growth, and shared success.”
As an entrepreneur, wife, and mother, she understands how powerful generosity can be. Investing in people and opportunities doesn’t just strengthen the business, it enriches life on every level.
